Set up the add-on

Install PDF Unfold from its Google Workspace Marketplace listing when available. If your work or school account prevents installation, ask your Google Workspace administrator whether the add-on is allowed.

1. Open a document in Google Docs on a desktop browser.
2. Choose Extensions → PDF Unfold and open the import sidebar. Grant the permissions shown by Google.
3. Choose a PDF from your computer. Set a page range if you need only part of it, such as 1–3, 5.
4. For a scan, choose Auto detect or the appropriate OCR language. Enter the PDF password if the file requires one.
5. Select Convert PDF. Review any notices, choose Current document or New document, then select the import button.

For the current document, choose Add pages to the end or Replace everything. Appending starts on a new page, fitting the imported pages to the document's paper size. An empty document does not get a blank first page. Replacement removes the existing content while keeping the document link.

For changing the words: Editable layout

This mode creates editable text and supported tables or fields. Use it when you need to update wording or reuse content. Fonts and spacing can change, and scans can contain recognition mistakes. Longer edits inside positioned fields can need manual resizing or reformatting.

Adding to an existing document

A temporary DOCX copy is combined with the converted pages and imported back into the same document. The current and combined DOCX copies must each fit within 45 MB, and the document must have a single tab. Larger documents may take longer for Google to prepare; the import continues automatically. Google-specific features can change during this round trip. If someone edits the document during preparation, the update stops; review the changes and retry.

Troubleshoot a conversion

The words or numbers are wrong

Check whether the source is a scan. Try a clearer, upright version and choose the matching OCR language. Import options include 124 language variants; select a language and choose Add another language for mixed documents, up to eight at once. Auto detect identifies writing systems, but short text and mixed scripts can need an explicit choice. Review numbers, names, and dates against the original. OCR does not verify the information in a document.

The layout changed

Editable conversion reconstructs document structure. Complex columns, merged cells, unusual fonts, and tightly spaced forms may need cleanup. Compare the editable result with the original PDF before sharing.

The file is too large or the conversion stops

Use a PDF up to 200 MiB and select no more than 100 pages. Dense scans can reach other processing limits. Retry a smaller page range or reduce the source image size. If the service is busy, wait before submitting another job.

A password is required

Enter the password that opens the source PDF. PDF Unfold cannot recover an unknown password. Only convert a protected document when you have permission to access it.

The conversion finished but no Google Doc appeared

Return to the sidebar, choose the destination, and use the import button. If the temporary result has expired, run the conversion again. Before retrying an import, check whether the new document was already created in your Drive.

Manage your subscription

Subscribe from the add-on's billing controls. This connects your purchase to the add-on account. The website does not start a purchase on its own.

Select Manage subscription in the add-on to open Lemon Squeezy's customer portal. Verify the email used for checkout when requested. You can manage billing and cancel renewal there.

Free includes five pages once per add-on account, with no payment card required. Pro includes 500 pages per calendar month (UTC) for US$9.99 monthly or US$89.99 yearly, charged upfront. Unlimited has no monthly page cap and costs US$17.99 monthly or US$159.99 yearly, charged upfront. All three tiers include OCR and editable imports. Free does not automatically start a paid subscription.

Pro's page allowance resets at the start of each UTC calendar month, without rollover, under either billing interval. Each conversion accepts up to 100 selected pages and a 200 MiB PDF, subject to your remaining Free or Pro allowance. Processing and queue limits still apply to every tier.

Uninstalling the add-on does not cancel billing. Cancelling renewal normally keeps access until the end of your paid period. For a refund request or an incorrect charge, contact support with the order reference and checkout email. Requests are reviewed individually under our refund policy; approved refunds are processed through Lemon Squeezy.
